High School Musical

Disney is at it again! High School Musical, another Disney live film, is not like any other teen movie. It is a musical show! High School Musical is, I can say, the most commercialized live Disney flick. There are 2 installments (and counting! one of which was still in progress), various versions of the film (dance, sing-a-long, and trivia), and even Disneyland shows! Kids and tweeners gladly accepted this teen “musical” show.

High School Musical is all about going beyond what is the status quo. The story revolves on the team-up of two very different teens. Gabriella Montez (played by Vanessa Hudgens) is a very smart high school teen who just moved to the city where Troy Bolton (played by Zac Efron) lives. Troy, on the other hand, is the star of the wild cats basketball team. He is the not so typical basketball player since he loves to sing too (which is totally embarrassing according to Troy’s dad, who also coaches the wild cats basketball team). Their “love” brought them to the stage and star the musical show of their school.

It is not a typical teen movie since, for the most part, the characters suddenly bursts into songs and dances. Though their singing and dancing is not at least par with the movie Grease, I still commend the actors since their songs and dances are actually catchy. Every kid on our block knows their songs and dance moves!

The movie in general was intended for kids and tweeners since the story for me was a little shallow. But then again, High School Musical is still worth to watch if you don’t have something better to do at home. :)
